10th Anniversary - There's No Place Like Home
Our 10th anniversary was Thursday. My mil came over to watch the kiddos. We had the opportunity to stay out all night and even got a hotel room. We were home by 9 o'clock that night. As much as I enjoyed having some along time with my husband, I felt like I was walking around missing a limb. My mil said, "don't lose your identity". I know she meant well but whatever that was or wasn't supposed to mean made no difference. Being a mom is my identity. I grumble sometimes about losing myself and feeling like a mom-bot, but given the opportunity to escape I find that I don't want to. So, I suppose that we will enjoy dates and couple outings, but at the end of the night I want to be at home with my baby. I wonder then how old he will be before I can manage the night without him. The thought of that day makes me sad. I shop in the clothing section for my baby now where I used to shop for our teenager and it makes me want to cry. I have a 14 year old too big to wear those cute little innocent boy clothes and some day my baby will be too big to wear them too. Somehow that seems both wonderful and tragic. It's easier for me to sleep a night without the teenager at home when he's at a friend's house in part because he could fight off a wild animal, and in part because I wasn't with him the first three years of his life. I'm thankful to be grounded no matter the reason. Mom chemistry reminds me that my baby is my home. I think he probably feels the same way about me.

21st century Tanning Salons
I have a vitamin D deficiency. I tried taking prescribed supplements, but it's not working very quickly at all. Anyway, after reading about the deficiency it scared the hell out of me and I did what I've sworn off for over a decade; went to the tanning bed. Dom Dom Dommmm! Yep, I did.
We've all had our brains trained to believe the sun is bad and any exposure to the sun's rays will surely kill us. After doing some research, I found that the effects of not getting sun exposure can actually be much more harmful than going to the dreaded tanning salon. Skin cancer has a low mortality rate. Vitamin D deficiency on the other hand can contribute to heart disease, diabetes, stroke, cancer, depression and anxiety just to name a few. These are things I'm predisposed to as most of the rest of the country is.
Walking into the salon I felt like a little girl in a candy shop. You have to understand something first. The last time I went to the tanning bed was 14 years ago. I worked at a hair/tan salon and tanned for free. The tanning beds were plain white and the size of a small coffin. The only cooling was that of a pedestal fan oscillating nearby which didn't help much. I used to sweat my ass off for that tan and tried to pretend it was relaxing to lay and bake in this tiny capsule. Once I moved away to college, tanning lost all of its appeal to me and that was the end.
Now I find that not only are there larger beds, but there are like 5 different tanning options. First we have fast tan which is similar to old school tanning but I've been told the beds are indeed nicer and larger. A step up we have faster which is even bigger and nicer still, then we have fastest. Fastest is the only bed I've used so far. This bed looks like a space capsule and has neon lights on the outside that change colors. The bed is at least twice as big and old school beds and has controls inside and right above your head. You can access the radio or your ipod and listen to speakers built in to the top of the bed, separate face tanning controls, inside a/c and fans. These fans are so strong that I was actually getting cold today. This bed even mists you with water while you tan. Unbelievable. The other two options are instant tan which is supposed to give you, well, an instant tan for the weekend or date and of course the fist pumping spray on tan.
The only bed that has the vitamin D bulbs are the fastest beds. I'm paying a little more than I like, but hopeful that this will improve my levels faster than these pills which are an over dose each time I take them and make me so so sleepy.

Busy Day
After class, the hubby and I went to Lowes and picked out the paint for our living room. Hubby then picked up the teenager and they went for their haircuts. I wandered around Lowes until they got back. I was able to find everything we needed for the dog kennel and so we have a lot of work ahead of us.
After leaving Lowes, we went out to dinner. Our 19 month old apparently got tired of listening to the music because he stuck his fingers in his ears and said "bye". It was so funny.
The rest of the time I've been working on my laptop once again attempting to revive the poor thing from the brink of death. I almost bought a new pc today, but just couldn't bring myself to do it. The laptop is defragging last now as my last step. I hope this works out ok and the Microsoft Office I installed on it will work ok as well. I really need to be able to do homework around here. I'm so ready to relax!

Silly Holidays
Oh Valentines Day. What a cruel holiday. Those who have no significant other get it rubbed in their faces, and those who do but lack romance also get it rubbed in their faces. I heard a rumor that there's some "Wives" day coming up. Is that a second chance holiday?
